Strengthening Local Councils’ Institutional Capacity - 2018
During the period between August 2014 and August 2016, SAI partnered with local and International NGO in implementing the “Strengthening Local Councils’ Governance” program. SAI established partnerships with over 32 regional and provincial councils in Aleppo, Idlib, and Rural Damascus. SAI team have conducted +800 capacity building workshops and arranged thousands of mentorship and counseling sessions with the councils’ senior members to develop, revise and review bylaw, council structure, and job description for the staff to ensure that the councils have the necessary regulations and policies and correspond with the counsellors’ roles and responsibilities.
SAI’s unique approach involves engaging with different actors and stakeholders, working with council members and staff to improve the councils’ performance, policy and institutional structure, creating and strengthening bonds with the local community and civil actors through leading public meetings, dialogues, and workshops, while also assisting councils in establishing outreach offices. SAI also has full-time field trainers who provide professional training and contribute to building the capacity of local councils.
